The best improvement to the Max ATVs - Solid splined axles and heavy duty 530 o-ring chain. The middle axle of the Max IV is shown here. Solid axles reduce the chance of bending or breaking an axle. Splined shafts eliminate slop between the axle and sprocket. O-ring chains provide low maintenace and long life. All newer Max ATVs feature improved greasable inner and outer bearings.
Updated in 1997 - Disc brakes on both front axles replaced the old style, nearly useless, drum and band brakes. A foot pedal applies the brake and it is locked by the red lever.
New cargo area on the Max II - Flat area with cargo rail makes hauling cargo much easier. This picture also shows the new camo color just recently updated. Yellow/Tan color has been reduced to darken the plastic. Looks very nice.
The Max IV engine cover has also been updated. It improves the old design by completely covering the engine. Black metal mesh screen allows plenty of cool air for the engine.
One of the best comfort improvements on the Max IV is the improved backseat legroom. The new engine cover and other changes allowed the seat to be moved back 3" over the older models. This allows the Max IV to seat four adults comfortably.
Front and rear skid plates increase lower body protection. A trailer hitch is standard on all vehicles. K-rims were also installed on all Max ATVs starting in 1999. These are special bead lock wheels to almost completely eliminate the problem of knocking a tire off the rim.
